03 Nov

You might have noticed also that the engine misses under load. Then read this Lawn Mower Repair article for this particular problem. Listed here are the possible causes for this one. Spark plug may be fouled, improperly gapped, or totally damaged. You may want to look at the breaker points because the problem might be coming from there. The breaker points of your engine might be pitted or improperly gapped. Breaker arm might be sluggish or condenser might be bad. If not, then the carburetor may need adjustment or professional service. But try to check if the fuel line, fuel filter, or fuel tank cap vent is clogged, or the fuel shut off valve is partially closed. It could also be valves that are not adjusted properly or weak valve springs or perhaps the exhaust ports are blocked which is suitable for 2 stroke lawn mowers and not for 4 stroke engines.

The Beauty of Flowers

12 Jan

Simple and recognizable forms: Only some house plants produce flowers, but the ones that do in many cases are remarkably generous with quantity, size, and color. And even though some flowering forms are grown largely for their foliage the yearly or occasional bonus of the flowers is usually well worth waiting for.

Yet there are lots of temporary plants so named since they’re given house room only for the sake of their flowers. Following a single flowering season they are either thrown away or replanted outdoors. But the ones that grow well in the house for many years, flowering almost continuously or for months at a time are likely the most rewarding. Well known examples of this last group arc the saintpaulias and the impatienses.

Regardless of whether long lasting, short-lived, or in between, flowering plants have an essential part to play in every indoor garden. All-green foliage usually forms the nucleus of house plant selections. Variegated leaves add splashes of vibrant color occasionally. But no other feature can compete with an occasional flower in helping to create the environment of a truly living garden.

Different blooms

In some plants the real flowers are less distinctive than the bracts surrounding them. These extremely elaborate modified leaves are the primary feature of such plants as poinsettias where nature, in reality, provided them to attract pollinating insects to flowers that would not attract them otherwise. From time to time, though, bracts and flowers have very similar visual impact, but the bracts generally remain eye-catching long after the flowers have died. For this reason such plants as aechmeas and aphelandras are useful indoors.

The amazing world of orchids

For exciting color combinations and resilience there is nothing like an orchid flower. And even though many orchids cannot be grown in ordinary rooms, those that can are no less beautiful. Without a doubt, few other flowers can compete with their elegance.

When cacti burst into bloom

As opposed to popular belief, cacti bear flowers which are usually attractive and always stalkless, superbly colored, and long lasting. The only downside is that you may have to wait several years before some types bloom.

The fruits of flowers

When conditions are right, many indoor plants produce fruit. A handful of them, in fact, are beautiful to look at and delightful to grow first for foliage, then for flowers, and lastly, when the flowers have faded, for fruits.

A Yard Vacuum is a Convenient Time Saver

12 Dec

Cleaning your yard can mean a backbreaking day of raking. A wonderful time saving product that actually cleans better than a rake can is a yard vacuum. It can suck away leaves, sticks, trash and other types of debris from the lawn leaving it neat in far less time. A handy yard vacuum offers convenience and gives you time to take on other projects.

Many brands of vacuums are available, but all come in one of three basic types. These are a push or walk behind lawn vacuum, the hand held type and one that is towed. The hand held unit has an attached bag for debris storage and resembles a leaf blower in form. The push model operated like a push lawnmower and also includes a trash bag that is reusable. The tow model is a tractor attachment and as extra suction capacity because of the heavy duty strength of its motor.

20 Nov

Growing your own garden from seeds is very economical, one package of seeds goes a long way. If you’ve saved some egg cartons they make great containers to get them going. Use potting mix and work some warm water into it to make sure it is thoroughly wet, loosely spoon it into your egg cartons and put about 3 tomato seeds in each section, you can thin them out later. Add a little moist soil over the top and tap it down lightly, and sprinkle a little more water over the soil. Cover with some light plastic to keep them warm and move to a sunny window. You will need to spray them with water every day and remove the plastic covering to prevent mold from forming. What Are Termites?

28 Jul

Termites are social insects that resemble ants a lot and feed mainly on wood. In terms of appearance, termites look a lot like ants, but they are actually not the same as ants. The difference between ants and termites may be clear to an expert, but to a layperson, they probably would not be able to tell the difference.

The difference extends to the way termites build their nests compared to ants. Ant nests are mostly not as grand as the termite’s nests. Some termite species can build nests almost 10 meters tall and several meters wide at the base. These termite mounds dot the African plains and can even serve as landmarks. It is apparent that termites are much better architects than ants!

In certain regions, termites pose a problem for humans. They eat wood and won’t discriminate between wood in the wild and wood used to construct man made buildings. That’s why termites are the chief pests of wood in many countries around the world.

I May Have A Black Thumb But I Can Grow Tulips

28 Jul

I’ve always liked flowers, but not the traditional roses and carnations that guys love to buy. I love selling them from my gazebo in the park. My favorite flower is tulips. Unfortunately I didn’t inherit the green thumb that my mother and her mother before her had, I seemed to get a black thumb. I had a cactus in college until I set it outside and someone stole it from the balcony near my room. I had pretty much given up on flowers when my Mom suggested I buy something that was a bulb and that would return every year with little effort. Since tulips are my favorite flower I thought it was worth a shot. I bought purple and white tulips and took a lot of care to plant them and water them everyday with the hopes that I might turn my black thumb green. To my surprise the tulips did bloom and looked absolutely beautiful in the spring. I also tried fall tulips but didn’t have the same luck. As I did a little research on tulips, I was surprised to learn a few interesting tidbits of information about tulips. Though they are often associated with Holland, they are originally from Persia and were extremely rare and very valuable. They are also supposed to take a lot of care and persistence and can be very difficult to grow. I was very pleased when the following spring my beautiful tulips returned to remind me of my effort the previous year.
